Richard Young

Vice President of Manufacturing Technology

Richard Young is the vice president of Manufacturing Technology at SEMATECH. In this role, Young oversees strategic development and operations for SEMATECH’s manufacturing-related programs in Albany, including 450 mm Wafer Transition, Manufacturing Technology, and Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) programs.

With over 15 years in the high-tech industry, Young has significant expertise in semiconductor fabrication, lean manufacturing, and efficiency improvement in manufacturing operations, as well as in international partnerships, team development and large-scale change initiatives.

Young previously served as vice president of Operations for Kovio, Inc., a venture-backed printed semiconductor IDM, where he defined Kovio's manufacturing strategy and roadmap. 

Prior to joining Kovio, Young held a variety of senior management, operations and engineering positions at Spansion, AMD, Industrial Design Corporation, and Shimizu America Corporation. His leadership was marked by the successful launch of AMD's Fab 30 in Dresden, the joint venture between AMD and Fujitsu that became Spansion, and the subsequent expansion of operations, including R&D models, external manufacturing and future factories.

Young holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
